Map layer in the national data set AR250 showing arable land on a scale 1:250 000. Arable soils are areas that by cultivation can be arranged so that they will keep the requirements for fully cultivated soils and that meet the requirements for climate and soil quality for plant cultivation.
The map layer arable land in AR250 is produced by generalisation of the data set arable land derived from the Digital Land Battle Map and updated with area resource classes from land resource maps in scale 1:5,000 (AR5). Above the tree line, arable soil is constructed after interpretation of satellite images. In addition, topographic Norway maps have been used on a scale of 1:250,000 (N250) where we have neither AR5 nor satellite images available.
Arable land may be recorded on surface-grown soils, inland pastures, forests, open solid land and marshes as mapped in the dataset of land resource maps on scale 1:5000 (FKB-AR5). Figures with farm land that are less than 100 acres are not shown on the map, but are merged with adjacent areas.
The data set is updated once every three years. The current data set is from 31.12.2016.
