Wood species is a map layer or property with its own presentation rules in the national data set AR50 that shows main types of arealess resources on a scale 1:50 000 adapted for use on scales from 1:20 000 to 1:100 000. Tree species is a division by distribution of crown cover between conifers and lauv trees on forest areas. Property in the data set to be used to produce the map layer is called ARTRESLAG in sosi format and wood species in gml and gdb format. Legal property values according to the code list are: 31 — Barforest; 21 — forest forest; 33 — mixed forest. AR50 is produced by generalisation of FKB-AR5 below the tree limit and interpretation of satellite images above the tree line. In addition, N50 has been used where there are no AR5 or satellite images. Shapes smaller than 15 acres do not appear on the map, but are merged with adjacent areas. The dataset is thus not suitable for spatial analysis. The data set is updated once every three years with the last year’s version of FKB-AR5 (area resource map on a scale of 1:5000 in the database as of 31.12). The latest update has data from 31.12.2019. Data is downloaded as county or municipal files. There is no need to download the data set more than once to produce all the map layers.
