A water region is the administrative division for the management of watercourses, including groundwater bodies and coastal marine areas. The classification is based on subdivision criteria from the Water Framework Directive, which implements the Water Framework Directive. Norway is divided into a total of 18 water regions, seven of which are international with Sweden and Finland.
The whole Norwegian regions are; Glomma, Vest-Viken, Agder, Rogaland, Hordaland, Sogn- og Fjordane, Møre- og Romsdal, Trøndelag, Nordland, Troms, Finnmark.
In addition to these, the following water regions have areas on Norwegian territory: Västerhavet, Botenviken (Sweden), and Torneå, Tornionjoen and Kemijoki (Finland).
