Aerial-based modelling of the current forest vegetation for the Natura 2000 area Ennstaler Alpen National Park Gesäuse (Northern Limestone Alps, Styria)

Based on geomorphological data, a CIR aerial image analysis and 262 localised forest vegetation shots were recorded in 20072009. Forest vegetation modeled for the Natura 2000 area Ennstaler Alpen & Nationalpark Gesäuse in GIS. Orientation to the forest site sensing for the Gesäuse documented Location types and height limits (Carli 2008) allowed the development of 22 different Forest types that were checked randomly in the field in 2009 and re-adjusted if necessary. In the The text explains the starting position, outlines the considerations in the creation of maps and presents the types of forest used and their spatial distribution. Finally, the limits of such non-terrestrial vegetation mapping are put for discussion.
