The long-term preservation of the functioning of ecosystems and their biodiversity requires (large-scale) cohesive habitat networks. Animals need unimpeded hiking corridors for their daily, seasonal or fluctuating environmental conditions. Isolated areas impoverish in terms of their species stock and genetic diversity.
The present technical basis illustrates the still existing regional biotope network in the Rhine Valley and shows possible connections to the surrounding landscape chambers (connection between the habitats of the northern Western Alps and the northern Eastern Alps).
The composite axes are divided into \Überregionaler Verbund\ and \Verbund Alpenrhein\. These areas are described in more detail in the final report (www.vorarlberg.at/umweltschutz ).
