The German Tamariske, formerly widespread on rivers, Myricaria germanica, must now be classified as “endangered by extinction” due to its pronounced rarity throughout Austria. The possibility of spontaneous reappearance of the tamaris in the Gesäuse can be excluded, since the species has not been detected here for more than 70 years and the next known (and most likely last) occurrence of the species at a primary site in Styria is (still) located at the exit of the wooden apple valley near Wildalpen. Therefore, and due to the fact that relocation bulkheads are still subject to natural water dynamics in the Gesäuse, this study is intended to prepare the foundations for a species conservation project with the aim of resettling this species.
