As part of selective genetic sampling of butterflies in Burgenland (Austria), 74 species are reported for the first time for the federal state. The previously underestimated regional biodiversity includes seven new findings for Austria: Nemapogon hungaricus Gozmány, 1960, Trichophaga scandinaviella Zagulayev, 1960 (Tineidae), Bucculatrix sp. (Bucculatricidae), Nothris gregerseni Karsholt & umpich, 2015 (Gelechiidae), Batrachedra parvulipunctella Chrétien, 1915 (Batrachedridae), Oxyptilus buvati (Bigot & Picard, 1988) (Pterophoridae), and Delplanqueia inscriptella (Duponchel, 1836) (Pyeralidae). All species were secured after initial morphological diagnosis by the use of molecular determination methods (DNA barcoding). The resulting significance of DNA barcoding for & 776;r an objective faunistic inventory is briefly discussed.
