Dataset description

When the measures of enns regulation in the sixties of the 19th century in the area of Admont (Steiermark) transformed the meandering Enns into a straightened river with clearly stretched lines, they left behind a series of riverbed relics. These old arms, cut off from the new riverbed, have evolved over the years into valuable biotopes and retreats of rare and endangered flora and fauna. This work deals with seven of these old arms and their surroundings (Mödring, Admont Steam Saw, Admont East, Admont New America, Scheiblteich and Narrenteich, Squad Altarm and Grabner Au). On the one hand, it sheds light on her history and development since its creation. On the other hand, it represents the actual state of natural spatial parameters (geology, soil conditions, hydrology, endangered flora and fauna) and anthropogenic use. In a third step, conceptual ideas for the future of these research areas will be presented. Ecological parameters are taken into account in the same way as those of hydraulics or utilisation claims through tourism and recreation. The goal is the sustainable development of a river landscape with a dynamic balance between the river, its floodplains and the surrounding cultural landscape.
