Investigation of buildings inhabiting bats in the area of the NP Gesäuse

A total of 15 buildings were examined for their use by bats. Only in one (power plant Hieflau) no evidence of bats were found and only in two were the crusts so old that they could not be determined. 4 types of bats were detected in or on the buildings: The present study detected the small horseshoe nose Rhinolophus hipposideros, the large mouse ear Myotis myotis, long ears Plecotus sp. and the northern bat Eptesicus nilssonii. Detector interrogations at Lake Ennsstau Gstatterboden provided evidence of water and dwarf bats (Myotis daubentonii and Pipistrellus pipistrellus), interrogations in front of Johnsbach church, proof of the pug bat (Barbastella barbastellus).
