This study presents phase 1 of the two-phase project management for the creation of a Limnological concept for the Gesäuse National Park. The basis for the drafting of the concept is the 6(2) of the National Park Ordinance, which states: The National Park Administration has to draw up a limnological concept and implement it within the framework of fisheries legislation. On the basis of this concept, the conservation of natural biodiversity and genetic variability, as well as the progress of domestic livestock, will be ensured and promoted.
In its basic concept, which is stipulated by the tender documents of February 2008, the concept clearly transcends the technical framework of Limnology and, in addition to the protected products of the water itself, also deals with the river-shaped accompanying habitats and their conservation-relevant species equipment. This extended thematic reference applies in particular to phase 1, which includes the documentation and evaluation of the actual status, the preparation of a catalogue of measures and the preparation of a monitoring plan for the protected goods listed in the tendering procedure.
For Phase 2, surveys of the macrozoo and phytobenthos and the assessment of the ecological status of waters under the Water Framework Directive provide for a focus on the limnological aspects i.e. The development of phase 1 of the concept is entirely based on the literature on the individual protected goods. Own mappings or surveys on site are not provided in this phase of the project, their own expert interpretations are provided only to a limited extent.
