From the middle of the last century, the landscape of the Johnsbach was greatly altered by the incorporation of the building. If the valley was previously an extensive “wildbach landscape” with largely widespread rubble, surrounding areas, unpaved cones and isolated woodland, it has transformed into a “forest valley” characterised by fichsten forest.
The Wildbach character could only be preserved on individual sub-areas (e.g. Kainzenalblschütt). These were seen as a “guideline” for the redesign of the installation in the context of the LIFE project. However, due to the continued need to secure the road at the same time, this mission statement could only be implemented to a limited extent.
In this section, the Johnsbach Valley is characterised by numerous FFH habitat types dependent on the brook dynamics, from the lavender pasture pioneer bush to the Grauerlenau. The aim of the LIFE project was to slow down the negative trend in the development of these habitat types and, on the contrary, to initiate further establishment of dynamic areas. This report is intended to assess whether this objective has been achieved.
