Dataset description

Based on the results of the first survey of bat fauna in the Gesäuse National Park in 2005 by the KFFÖ, this study examined the species that occur, their locations and Schwärmquartiere as well as monitoring. A total of 13 bat species were detected in the Gesäuse National Park. In addition, there is strong suspicion of occurrence in the Gesäuse National Park due to batcorder recordings for two other species. Weekly pubs were found in the Gesäuse just outside the national park borders. In Johnsbach there are two weekhouses Kleiner Hufeisennasen and a Wochenstube Brauner Langohren. Another two possible weekhouses Kleiner Hufeisennasen could be located in the two bridges Kummerbrücke and Ennsbrücke near Hartelsgraben. At various locations, balzen two-colour bats could be registered, which suggest mating activity. The simplest detection method of the different species is certainly the Batlogger or Batcorder system, whereby some species (e.g. Myotis) can also cause evaluation problems. However, these two methods could be used to cover most species together with the district controls of the most important weekly quarters. It would therefore be possible to dispense with the more complex net catch provided that monitoring is envisaged only for certain species of bat suitable for that purpose, such as the mosquito bat or the dwarf bat.
