In 2010 the species Sperlingskauz, Raufußkauz, Dreitohenspecht and whiteback woodpecker were recorded in the Gesäuse National Park on three test areas with a total area of 917 ha (owls) and 1.111 ha (spread). The recording was carried out with three ascents and using sound traps. Other species of woodpeckers and owls, as well as other species with special protection status, were included in the censuses. Settlement densities were determined from the registrations of the species. Furthermore, the total populations of these species were estimated in the National Park. Modellings produced in the National Park were used for estimation, including the registration of these species. This study is the basis for a longer-term monotoring of the stocks of those species.
