According to the first census in 2010, the species Sper-lingskauz, Raufußkauz, Dreitohenspecht and Whiteback woodpecker were recorded in 2011 on three test areas with a total area of 874 ha (owls) and 984 ha (spread). One of the sample areas was also recorded in 2010 (Gscheideggkogel), the other two areas were processed only in 2011 (Gofer, Hieflau). 2011 was recorded using the same method as 2010: three ascents and use of sound traps. In addition to the above species, other species of woodpeckers and owl species as well as dwarf snappers (no detection) were mapped. From the censuses, settlement densities for the sample areas and, together with the data from 2010, total densities were calculated. The censuses from 2010 and 2011 form the basis for an inventory monitoring of forest-inhabiting owls and spruce in the Gesäuse National Park.
