Monitoring of the endemic ornamental fermentation (Dianthus plumarius subsp. blandus) in the Gesäuse National Park has shown that the plant is at risk of erosion, but is also not competitive in the event of progressive succession. Currently only moderately populated sites (e.g. Gofergraben, Oberer Bruckgraben) could disappear completely in the next few years. Richly populated sites with multiple subpopulations can support each other and allow for re-dissemination (e.g. Gseng).
