The aim of the Alpine Convention is an ecologically and socio-economically balanced development in the Alpine region. These objectives are defined by the provisions of so-called “protocols” (for the areas of spatial planning, mountain farming, mountain forest, nature conservation and landscape maintenance, energy, soil protection, tourism, transport and dispute resolution), which have been legally valid since 2002. The legally binding transposition takes place in Austria by BGBl III — Nos 232/2002 to 238/2002.
