In the summer of 2015, a possible occurrence of the Aesculapnatters in the Gesäuse National Park, more precisely in Gstatterboden and in the area west of Hieflau, was examined in a total of four mapping passages. In ideal weather conditions, four amphibian and five reptile species were detected. A flat mapping and the interrogation of local people did not reveal any evidence of an existing Aesculapnatter population. A migration of individual individuals through the study area is not excluded.
