Dataset description

The project Integrative Cooperation Platform Johnsbachtal is used for environmental observation in the high mountains. The basis is a measuring network of meteorological stations. The objectives of this thesis are, on the one hand, the integration of the data into the system of the Wegener Centre, on the other hand a first evaluation of the air temperature and the wind conditions in the study area. For this purpose, the measurement data and all relevant information about the measuring stations were first collected and integrated into their system in cooperation with the Wegener Zentrum. Due to difficult measuring conditions in the high mountains, the data show failures and measurement errors. Therefore, the data had to be checked and corrected by the author. The default rates were within an acceptable framework. Air temperature analyses were carried out over several observation periods and the results were presented for all stations. It was found that the air temperature in the investigation area mainly depends on the factors sea level, terrain and exposure. The wind directions and wind speeds were also shown for all locations. It has been shown that a wind direction prevails in the high altitudes, while two main wind directions can be found in lower locations. This is due to thermal wind systems that follow a daily course. Seasonal differences can only be found in the wind speeds that reach the maximum in winter. The station data used provided good results for the evaluations and were classified as plausible. The exception is Blaseneck station. In all evaluations, this station shows too high temperature values. This indicates a systematic error and has been communicated to the relevant experts.
