It is believed by locals that the alpine pasture was originally higher than today and was reduced to today’s Hüttstatt at 1 482 m above sea level due to lack of water. Since this question could not be clarified at an inspection on 10 August 2005 between Hüttstatt and the higher Antoniboden, some topographical considerations for a possible higher position of the alpine pasture should be mentioned here.
Today’s Hüttstatt lies at 1480 meters above sea level very deep in the high forest zone. The small free space was beaten out of the forest. All around is only forest pasture.
Only 120 m higher is the first open grazing area, the Antoniboden, at 1600 meters above sea level. An artificial stone layer can be seen on this bulge, presumably a keeper’s hut with a desk roof. The deepest point of the Antoniboden forms a striking rock doline, whose half cave under a horizontal rock wall about 10 m high also in summer ice has an ideal ice cellar. A few meters east of the Antoniboden at the same height lies the small hunting lodge of the Stmk. National Forestry.
