As part of the present study, ten selected gravel surfaces on the Enns and in the Johnsbachtal were examined florist-vegetation-experiences. The aim was qualitative statements on the influence of rafting sports on these areas. As a comparison, an existing study (FREILAND & JUNGWIRTH 1992) could be used for three study areas. In addition, basic data on the current neophyte flora were collected. The vegetation zoning of the gravel benches ranges from sparse pioneering corridors on coarse schotter surfaces with very little fine sediment to closed flood turfs, plague curvatures and roe erects to forests of the type of softwood eye in different stages of ripening. All vegetation types are essentially dependent on water dynamics.
10 neophytic and 8 wild species were detected on the test surfaces. Two neophytes (Japanese perennial knots & glandy springwort) appear to be problematic as they (can) displace the natural vegetation. Based on this, management proposals for areas affected by rafting and the fight against invasive neophytes were developed.
