Display service GIS content according to OGC standard WMS 1.1.1
The Web Map Service is a service to retrieve map-based geodata directly from a spatial data source. With the help of the diverse WMS parameters, users/programmers control which geodata are retrieved in which resolution and which map section. It also defines target format and target map projection. The WMS is therefore very flexible and therefore allows for very high design freedoms. The advantage is that the maps retrieved by WMS are always based on the up-to-dateness of the original data source. The result of a WMS is always a raster image, even if the output data is originally in vector format. It should be noted that due to the calculation of the result image in real time, the WMS access places relatively high demands on the web service infrastructure and the upstream geodatabases and is therefore only partially suitable for high-performance mass access.
