The Federal Environment Agency operates eight air quality centres, which form the Austrian background measuring network. These determine background pollution, distance transport and air quality trends in Austria. The report presents the results of the measurements in 2007 and the trend in recent years; in addition, special measurement campaigns are also presented. The statutory limit values for air pollutants were complied with at all measuring points. Exceedances of the target values for ozone for the protection of human health and vegetation occurred at all measuring stations, the information threshold was exceeded at the Illmitz, Pillersdorf, Enzenkirchen and Vorhegg monitoring stations. Overall, in 2007 Austria was found to be less polluting than in recent years.
