In the federal state of Tyrol there are about 2,600 alpine pastures, with a total area of about 6.000 km² covering more than 47 % of the country’s area of Tyrol. There are a variety of ways in which alpine pastures can be internally structured: An alpine pasture can have only one centre and no leger, it can consist of several pastures, for example can have two lower and two high-layers, and a leger may also have a “main operating number”. The following types of pastures or alm functionalities have been excreted:
• No casualties: This refers to alpine pastures that have only one alpine centre and do not have legacies.
• Depositors (NL)
• Fund investors (ML)
• High-end (HL)
• Galtviehleger (GAL)
• Sheep’s laying (SCHL)
During the localisation, the alp building, the alpine settlement or the alpine village, which is perceived as an alpine centre, was recorded by means of a point location. If there are no alpine pastures, the centre of the main grazing area has been located.
