The 2016 annual report of air quality measurements in Austria contains the results of the air quality measurements carried out by the federal states and the Federal Environment Agency. In 2016, exceedances of the limit values of the Immissionsschutzgesetz-Luft (IG-L) were registered for six parameters. The annual average for nitrogen dioxide was exceeded in eight federal states on heavy roads. In the case of particulate matter (PM10), there were exceedances of the daily mean value in Carinthia and Graz. In the case of benzo(a)pyrene, sulphur dioxide and dust precipitation (incl. lead), isolated exceedances were measured. The limit values and target values for carbon monoxide, PM2.5, heavy metals and benzene were met throughout Austria in 2016. Air quality pollution in Austria was significantly below the long-term average for most pollutants in 2016.
