With the report “Austria’s Annual Air Emission Inventory 1990-2008”, the Federal Environment Agency presents the development of those air pollutants for which national emission ceilings (NECs) are set for 2010 in accordance with the NEC Directive. The results of the Austrian Air Pollutant Inventory show a significant decrease of 9.2 % for sulphur dioxide (SO2) between 2007 and 2008. Nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx) decreased by 2.7 % over the same period. Ammonia emissions (NH3) also decreased slightly by 0.8 %, while volatile hydrocarbons excluding methane (NMVOC) remained almost constant (– 0.2 %) between 2007 and 2008. The national ceilings are already below SO2 and NH3, NMVOC emissions were slightly higher in 2008, while NOx emissions were significantly higher.
