In the report “Austria’s annual greenhouse gas inventory 1990-2007”, the Federal Environment Agency presents the latest developments in greenhouse gas emissions in Austria. The amount of greenhouse gas emissions in 2007 is 88 million tonnes of CO2 equivalents. This represents a reduction of 3.6 million or 3.9 % compared to 2006 and an increase of 11.3 % compared to the Kyoto base year 1990. The main driving factors compared to 2006 are the significant emission reductions in the heating and energy sectors due to the mild winter temperatures. The English report follows in format and content the mandatory requirements of the EU greenhouse gas monitoring system 280/2004/EC for the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol. It enshrines the annual transmission of updated greenhouse gas emissions data to the European Commission on 15 January.
