In “Austria’s Annual Greenhouse Gas Inventory 1990-2018” the Umweltbundesamt presents updated figures of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Austria including the first six years of the second commitment period under the Kyoto-Protocol. In 2018 GHG emissions amounted to 79.0 million tonnes of CO2 equivalents. This corresponds to a 0.7 % increase against 1990 and a 3.7 % decrease compared to 2017. Key drivers for the development 2017-2018 were the decreasing electricity production from natural gas power plants as well as lower production of iron and steel.
