This report presents the latest developments in those air pollutants for which there are national emission ceilings. It follows in format and content the mandatory requirements of EU Directive 2001/81/EC on national emission ceilings for certain air pollutants, also known as the “NEC Directive”. The NEC Directive sets binding national emission ceilings for each Member State for sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), non-methane volatile organic compounds (NMVOC) and ammonia (NH3) from 2010. The NEC Directive was transposed into national law in Austria by means of the Emissions Ceilings Act (EG-L, BGBL. I No 34/2003); the EC-L entered into force on 12 June 2003. Article 7, in conjunction with Annex III of the NEC Directive, provides that an annual inventory of these air pollutants shall be drawn up in accordance with the inventory rules adopted under the UNECE Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution (CLRTAP).
