Biofuels in transport in Austria 2008

Since 1 October 2005, companies selling petrol or diesel fuels in Austria have to replace 2.5 % (in terms of energy content) of these fuels with biofuels in accordance with Austrian fuel regulation. The share increased to 4.3 % at 1.10.2007 and the substitution target for the calendar year 2007 was 2.95 %. In 2007, 370.046 tonnes of biodiesel were used, of which 298,828 tonnes were added to fossil fuels, 71,218 tonnes of pure biofuel or diesel containing more than five % by volume of biofuel, and nearly 18,000 tonnes of vegetable oil. A total of 20,400 tonnes of bioethanol, mainly blended, were sold for the first time in the fourth quarter of 2007. In 2007, a total of 4.23 % of all fuels sold were substituted by biofuels, and in the last quarter as much as 4.85 %. In doing so, Austria fulfils the obligations of the EU Biofuels Directive. ISBN
