In the core zones, nature has priority, for this reason forest management has been discontinued and the core zones become, in the sense of process nature protection, left to themselves. For more details, see https://www.bpww.at/de/artikel/kernzonen
In core zones, the dedication of land as a building land or as a traffic area within the meaning of the NÖ ROG 2014 is prohibited. In the case of relocations of land within core zones, only the types of grassland deforestation, agriculture and forestry, wasteland/eco-area and free-holding areas are allowed.
The 27 core zones cover around 5.100 ha of the Lower Austria share of the BPWW (total area of the BPWW in Lower Austria: 95.100 ha).
