Dataset description
The European Waste Framework Directive provides for the recycling of municipal waste to reach a rate of 55 % by 2025. A recycling rate of 60 % by 2030 and 65 % by 2035 will be achieved. This report describes how the treatment routes of municipal waste in Lower Austria are determined on the basis of the annual waste balance reports and represents the calculation of the recycling rate. The calculations show that currently 62 % of Lower Austrian municipal waste is recycled. The recycling efficiency of the separately collected waste materials is already very high. The recycling rate could be increased by further improving separate collection and preparation for re-use.
