Certain foreign substances such as pharmaceutical active substances and their metabolites are not covered by the Drinking Water Ordinance and are therefore referred to as so-called non-regulated foreign substances. For a few of these substances, tolerances are already available, which are considered to be the highest tolerable concentration in drinking water. In order to better evaluate analytical measurement results in drinking water, Federal Environment Agency experts have derived tolerance values for a number of additional drug active substances. These tolerances are based on toxicological values such as the acceptable daily intake (ADI). In total, 90 drug active substances and their metabolites have derived tolerance values in drinking water for infants and adults. The report documents methodology and results.
