Electric mobility in Austria scenario 2020 and 2050

The use of electric vehicles is currently the best technological option to achieve long-term carbon-free individual mobility. The report of the Federal Environment Agency examines the achievable potential of electric vehicles in Austria up to the years 2020 and 2050. The starting point for the scenarios are optimal economic and legal framework conditions for the introduction of electric mobility in Austria. The comparison of demand and supply shows that by 2020 around 4 % of the Austrian vehicle fleet can be electrically operated. By 2050, this share could increase to around 74 %. In order to exploit the greenhouse gas reduction potential that can be achieved by replacing electric vehicles, the use of electricity from renewable sources is a necessary prerequisite.
