Together with the Institute for Higher Studies, the Federal Environment Agency developed a discrete decision model to generate new insights into the market potential of alternative vehicles (e.g. electric vehicles). For this purpose, preferences were raised by consumers. The demand model identified key drivers for the demand for electric vehicles and examined different measures in terms of their impact on emissions, energy consumption and market shares. The results show that young, high-income and well-trained males who use the vehicle on a daily basis are most likely to choose alternative vehicles. Awareness-raising measures, increases in fuel prices and expansion of the charging point infrastructure increase the market share of electrified vehicles.
