Dataset description

Energy sources from (agricultural) residues and waste are part of the measures within Austria’s climate and energy policy. The fermentation of manure in biogas plants combines climate protection and resource-saving economy. Methane and nitrous oxide emissions are reduced and contribute to CO2 savings, especially in the fields of agriculture and energy. Fermentable fertilisers from larger livestock farms reduce 2.9 % of greenhouse gases in the agriculture sector. The biogas produced contributes to a saving of 155 Gg of CO2 in the energy sector in electricity generation. The amount of heat generated by 740 GWh can generate additional CO2 savings in the small consumers and agriculture sector, depending on the plant. The manures are available free of charge and make plant operators more independent of price fluctuations in other substrates.
