Dataset description
Starting in 2015, Austria is expected to see a rise in waste flat screen appliances. Flat screens have a high content of recyclable materials such as aluminium, plastics and electronic components. The indium contained in displays is an important technology metal. Flat screens also contain pollutants, in particular easily released mercury. This report provides an overview of the status quo of collection and treatment in Austria, treatment procedures applied in Europe and treatment options for certain components. The report sets out minimum requirements for the environmentally sound treatment of flat screens based on the environmental impact of the treatment and taking into account existing standards in other European countries.
