EU Directive 98/70/EC requires Member States to verify compliance with the quality standards for fuels and report the results to the European Commission. In Austria, around 8.56 million tonnes of fuel were sold in 2017, of which 6.95 million tonnes (over 81 %) were diesel fuels. The Federal Environment Agency analysed samples from 206 petrol stations throughout Germany, with one sample being taken per filling station. The tests on the diesel fuel samples revealed a single exceedance of the permitted biodiesel content (FAME content). By contrast, all petrols of the ‘super gasoline’, ‘normal’ and ‘Super Plus’ grades were compliant in the reporting year. None of the six samples analysed exceeded the maximum value of 10 mg/kg sulphur content for marine fuels to be observed in accordance with EU Directive 2009/30/EC.
