In the cultivation of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) not only the coexistence of different agricultural production systems plays a role, but also the protection of sensitive areas from unexpected environmental effects. In view of a possible end to the genetic engineering moratorium in Switzerland, this report shows the basis for the protection of sensitive areas within the framework of coexistence regulations in Switzerland. To this end, solutions have been developed to protect these areas. The authors analysed how they can be protected from the potential influences of GMO cultivation, as well as identifying open questions and ambiguities in the implementation and developed recommendations for coexistence and protective measures.
