The meridian strips are divided by longitudinal and transverse strips into so-called triangulation leaves. Each meridian strip is divided into 15 longitudinal strips of 10 000 m width on both sides of the reference meridian. The longitudinal strips are denoted in the west beginning continuously with the numbers 01 to 90. The longitudinal strips 01 to 08 and 83 to 90 are entirely outside the state territory.
The transverse strips are divided from the equator into 10 000 m wide each, with the number 01 beginning to the north.
The data sets together comprise 1048 triangulation sheets.
The southernmost transverse strip is the 514th, which, after omission of number 5, is the name 14, the northernmost transverse strip of the 544th, which receives the designation 44. The triangulation sheet is characterised by leaf sections of a four-digit number, which is created by the juxtaposition of the corresponding longitudinal and transverse strip numbers.
The triangulation sheets form the basis for the classification and description of the folders 1:1 000, 1:2 000 and 1:5 000.
