Monitoring of habitat types and species of Community importance in Austria 2016-2018 and basic preparation of the report pursuant to Article 17 of the Habitats Directive in 2019. Final report. Short version.

Every six years, the European Union and its Member States prepare a report on the status of habitat types and species of Community interest in accordance with Article 17 of the Habitats Directive. This gives an overview of the Austrian monitoring of 31 habitat types and 38 species on almost 5,000 study areas. In addition, the evaluation results for 71 habitat types and 211 species for the period 2013-2018 are presented. Almost one fifth of the habitat types and one seventh of the species are in a favourable conservation status. Compared to the three reporting periods, the status of 70 % of species and 80 % of habitat types has not changed between 2000 and 2018. Only 3 % of habitat types and 10 % of species improved their conservation status.
