Mühleberg NPP — Switzerland, technical opinion on procedural documents for decommissioning. The Mühleberg Nuclear Power Plant (KKM) is a boiling water reactor with a current gross electrical power of 390 MW, which was repeatedly renewed by extensive retrofitting. The operator of the plant, BKW Energie AG (BKW), already took the fundamental decision in October 2013 to terminate the power operation in December 2019 and, after that, to definitively decommission the KKM. The KKM will then be dismantled. The necessary decommissioning project and an application for decommissioning pursuant to Article 28 Nuclear Energy Laws (KEG) were submitted by BKW in December 2015 to the competent Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (UVEK) in Bern. The Federal Nuclear Safety Inspectorate ENSI examines the safety aspects of the documents and drafts an opinion. This is expected to be available in the second half of 2017.
