The current EU MonMech Regulation (MMR — Monitoring Mechanism Regulation, 525/2013/EU) obliges Member States to submit preliminary estimates of greenhouse gas emissions for reporting year X-1 (in this case 2019) to the European Commission by 31 July each year.
The near-term projection of greenhouse gas emissions for 2019 was carried out using a simplified methodology and shows preliminary figures and the current trend for 2019. It is subject to uncertainties, therefore the results may differ from the Austrian Air Pollutant Inventory, which will be published in January 2021.
According to preliminary figures, approximately 80.4 million tonnes of greenhouse gases were emitted in Austria in 2019. Compared to 2018, this represents an increase of 1.8 % and 1.4 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent respectively.
