ÖFOS 2012 (Austrian classification of science branches) Description: The Austrian Classification of Science and Technology 2012 (ÖFOS 2012) is the version of the revised international classification Fields of Science and Technology (FOS), which was published as Fields of Research and Development (FORD) in the Frascati Manual 2015 and the application of which is binding in international comparison and in particular within the European statistical system. Compared to ÖFOS 2002, the level of the so-called 1-places with the six main groups of natural sciences, technical sciences, human medicine, health sciences, agricultural sciences, veterinary medicine, social sciences and humanities has remained unchanged. In order to ensure international comparability, the next level of the new 3 digits (groups) of the International New Fields of Science (FOS) has been adopted instead of the no longer applicable 2 digits. In order to be able to take into account the national circumstances in the new Austrian scientific branch classification, the three digits were assigned with further sub-groups (4 digits) taking into account the explanations of the international classification. The fields of work (keywords) listed in the alphabet, together with the corresponding 6 digits, are used to describe research activities (e.g. research projects) and/or to record the main scientific activities of a survey unit of R & D surveys.
