Service instead of product

In recent years, innovative services have been developed to help to use and replace products more efficiently, thus contributing to lower resource consumption and waste generation. However, many of these services require government support to achieve market maturity. From the point of view of resource protection, public funding should be concentrated on those projects that increase resource efficiency and contribute to waste prevention. This report concludes, based on a rough analysis of around 70 project ideas and a fine analysis of five service areas, that the service fields “Home Services” and “ReUse Centres” should be the focus of support from the Waste Management Section of the Ministry of Life, but also the areas “Carsharing and Carsharing” and “Plant Protection as a Service” should be the subject of a government-supported development programme.
