The study describes the state of the art for the production of lime, plaster and magnesia by means of deacidification and sintering. Environmental impacts of Austrian installations, such as air pollutant emissions (nitrogen oxides, sulphur dioxide, dust — from diffuse and captured sources) and energy consumption are presented. These are well documented for the Austrian lime industry. Lime kilns from other industries are currently lacking data. In the gypsum production plants, the limit values for dust in accordance with the Gip Plant Ordinance are complied with or usually fall below. For sulphur dioxide emissions that are highly dependent on raw materials, the limit value in the Gip Plant Ordinance no longer corresponds to the state of the art. In magnesia production plants, there is a need to reduce dust and nitrogen oxide emissions.
