In Burgenland, the limit value for PM10 was exceeded in 2010 and 2011 in accordance with the Air Quality Directive and the Air Pollution Protection Act. This status survey is used for spatial and sectoral source assignment and provides the basis for measures. Source assignment is based on PM10 measurement data, chemical analyses of PM10, meteorological data including trajectories and emission data on different spatial scales. In northern Burgenland, the increased PM10 load is more than 90 % due to sources in Lower Austria and Vienna as well as abroad, especially in Hungary, Poland and Slovakia. In southern Burgenland, local emissions and regional sources in Styria and Hungary predominate due to more unfavourable dispersion conditions. The most important source groups in Burgenland are road transport and space heating, and possible measures are therefore concentrated on these sectors.
