This dataset shows the afforestation on the Ferraris maps (1771-1778). Very suitable as a supplement to the forest age map or for specific research such as localisation of deforestation. The use for detailed studies is highly not recommended, except for field exploration. After all, the Ferraris maps are affected by important geographical errors. It should be borne in mind that the Ferraris cards are a snapshot like all the other maps and that the land use in Flanders already had a big dynamic before 1800. Locations designated as forest on the Ferraris maps are therefore not necessarily ‘never mined’. A small part of the current Flanders (Lommel, a piece of Voeren, Westouter) did not belong to the Austrian Netherlands and is therefore not shown on the maps of Ferraris.
