Network protection coverage by percentage of kilometres of track equipped with a safety system on the entire rail network.
In Belgium, there are different types of driver assistance systems, designed to work in harmony.
Memor-Crocodile gives an automatic warning to the driver
The TBL1 gives an automatic warning to the driver and causes an automatic stop if the train passes a closed signal without authorisation.
TBL1+ gives a warning to the driver and causes the train to stop automatically, but there is also discrete speed control at certain locations (such as when approaching a signal), which provides protection at risk points.
The European Train Control System (ETCS) is an automatic train control system that informs, controls and corrects by means of beacons installed in the tracks and a computer system in the train driver's cab. The beacons detect the exact position of the train so that the maximum authorised speed can be determined. The system will also monitor and correct driving errors (by correcting the speed on arrival near a red signal, for example, or by initiating emergency braking).
Through the TEN-T programme (Trans-European Transport Network) and the CEF programme (Connecting Europe Facilities), we have already received financial support from the European Union to secure our railway network with ETCS
