Gemiddelde nachtelijke lichtemissies voor de maanden april tot en met oktober, uitgezonderd de maand juni – toestand 2014, OpenbareMetadata, ruimtemonitor, ruimterapport
The map shows the nocturnal emissions of light in Flanders observed from space. The Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership satellite flies over Flanders after midnight and has a very sensitive sensor (Visible/Infrared Imaging Sensor or VIIRS). Only data has been used without the influence of moonlight, clouds and snow. Employees of the Aardobservatie Group of the US NOAA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, process the data into night light emission maps. The units of the map are Watt/cm²/steradial. This is the power per area per room angle. The map shows for the Flemish Region the average value of the light misses for the reference year 2014. This map is compiled on the basis of the average of the 6 monthly values of April, May, July, August, September and October. June shall be excluded: this month had too few observations in 2016 and is therefore excluded from each year to maintain comparability. The winter months are not included to exclude the impact of winter conditions on light emissions.
