Geographical grid dataset showing the soil cover in Flanders, condition 2012. This map focuses on soil and the loss of its essential ecosystem functions such as soil and its irreversibility. We're talking about “bottom cover.” Soil sealing shall be expressed as the area whose nature and/or condition of the soil surface has been altered by the application of artificial, (semi-) impermeable materials resulting in the loss of essential ecosystem functions of the soil. The map is shown in percentage coverage per pixel (5 m resolution).
